    Cool

Gotta agree with you on that. For too long the place has been "managed" rather than being run by a tenant as it is now. Previously, and we're going back between 7-10 years, it was one of the hottest places, although that sounded a little crass, once I'd typed it.

Nevertheless, music is one of the main reasons for people to go to a pub, and when it was first converted to Ye Olde Musician there were 3 or 4 nights a week when live music was on, and one of them would be a jam night. I don't think that most pubs could afford this kind of expenditure nowadays, but the principle is still the same - specialise in music (unlike most other places) and you're bound to get a following.

When the place was managed, there was never the incentive to make a real effort to increase the crouds, but as a tenant, when it's your own money on the line, I would have thought that it was a necessity.

Mind you, I don't run a boozer, never have done, and my only familiarity with them is that I visit them a hell of a lot. Not the right experience, me thinks.

    Cheerio!

I am better at the promoting side of things....its funny...there are never any promotional jobs for pubs...yet sometimes they often need them....

    True.

The last landlord Mr Peter "I'm from Huddersfield" Edmondson had to accept bookings from an agency for band nights (Sunday's) as it was still Scottish and Newcastle back then.

He finally got fucked off with paying GBP150+ for some band that got about 15 people in, the economics just didn't work.

He said to me "These jokers are described as having a large following - but they're from Brighton - I fucking bet not many of them will follow em up here for a pint and to watch them play". So he told them to ram it, and didn't bother having any more bands.

When you have such a large congregation of people willing to worship, packing them into a pub can't be all that difficult, especially due to the lack of similar events in the area.

You'd be surprised...local bands that play original material only tend to draw a crowd for the first few gigs...after that its pretty rare for it to continue. You have to get bands from out of town to bring them in...that have already released a record or two.
I personally think cover bands on the whole are shit...they always tend to go for the same old fucking songs and often do them embarrassingly badly...and very rarely change their sets.
